Deskripsyon

I was travelling west bound on Spruce St. At the intersection of 16th and Spruce the limousine sitting at the traffic light was not in the turn lane, nor did it have its turn signal engage prior to the turn.

When the light turned green, the limousine makes a sharp right turn into the bike lane hitting my front bicycle tire. The driver failed to stop and fled the scene.

I'm sorry this happened to you! I've been hit by a taxi in the bike lane on Pine. That's what convinced me to start riding with a camera running all the time. That and the PECO truck that told me to get on the sidewalk and then sent me there forcibly.

I'm glad you're running a camera, but did you call the police on the spot? They told me that's what I have to do next time. A hit-and-run is a serious infraction and you have the video evidence to prove it!

Yes, sorry this happened, but your characterizations of what occurred are a little off. The signal was on pretty much as soon as the driver decided to make the turn. And given that he was on the left (presumably picking up a passenger) he could not have gotten in the turn lane. Also, to say that he "fled" is a little over-exaggerated because I doubt the guy even knew this happened. I am not saying he isn't at fault, but as a fellow bike rider, you have to anticipate these things - it's called defensive driving.

Okay, I review the vid on a bigger screen and since I can't edit, I retract most of what I said - He didn't signal - I think it was a brake pump - and you're right, he should have gotten into the right lane to make the turn. But I still think saying he "flees" is a little Hollywood. I don't think the guy knew what happened, but who knows?
