The traffic flow on 322 needs to be addressed all the way along the WC-Dtown corridor. The new light at Shadyside caused a small backup, but the extra light at Sugar's Bridge has totally ruined the commute. I used to cruise from WC to the 322/30 backup, which was nasty...but now the entire length of 322 is stop and go (and sometimes STOPPED) between 5:15 and 6:00. Add that to the bridge out in Marshallton, and the trip went from 12 minutes to almost 35. Please help.
It looks like there aren't any government agencies listed as public watchers - only community organizations that probably don't have the authority to fix an issue like this. Who is responsible for fixing issues like this in Downington? If they have a public email address we can make a watch area for them.
With the bridge out on Strasburg Road going into West Chester, traffic volume has dramatically been affected. I expect as soon as the bridge is fixed, the traffic should ease up on 322.
Whoever redesigned this intersection should be shot! You have turned 322 into a parking lot during rush hours. The timing of the entire D-town to WC via 322 should is horrible.
What used to take 15/20 minutes now can literally take an hour! Horrible use of my tax dollars...
If anyone has paid attention, there have been half a dozen fatal crashes in that area in the last year. Each time excessive speed contributed to the causation. Since the PenDot does not feel that a posted speed limit is needed, impatient and irresponsible drivers treat this road as a race course. This light acts as a traffic control device that unfortunately we all have to tolerate due to the stupid behavior of a few. Slow down
AJC, your comment is not logical. The issue here is to have the light timing adjusted, not to have the light removed.
Why don't they just barricade the road at Shadyside? That would bring the driver speeds down to a very safe level. Or, maybe you feel we collectively need to serve some moral penance for the fatal crashes by wasting our time and gasoline by sitting in traffic needlessly.
Judi, the whole purpose for the signal was the impending closure of the bridge on Strasburg Road.
To all:
Driving west on 322, you could always turn off at one of the roads on the right side (Skelp Level, Valley Creek), and come out on Boot Road.
If you're intending to turn left on Sugars Bridge, Hall, or Shadyside, then scrap 322 altogether, and use 842 west out of West Chester, to Allerton Rd, to Lucky Hill Rd, to Strasburg Road, to Marshallton-Thorndale Road. The speed limits are lower than on 322, but there's far less traffic!
Sage-
Thank you for the information. Are you saying that the light at Sugars Bridge is temporary until the Strasburg Bridge is repaired? Or are you saying that the timing will be changed to allow a longer flow on Route 322 after the bridge is repaired?
Sage, apparently you don't live in Marshallton. If the light is a problem for you, then YOU take the circular route with less traffic. You already have it mapped out for yourself.
