There's pretty clearly a driveway and a garage door in that picture. It's not PPA's job to determine which garages/driveways are in use and which aren't. If you believe you were ticketed in error and you brought that picture to the hearing, you'd be giving them all the evidence they need to uphold the violation.

What do the signs on the street say?

There are no signs. The "garage doors" are those metal doors that protect store fronts from graffiti and vandalism. They are used all over in less then perfect neighborhoods to protect stores. The open ones clearly show the pedestrian entrances. One of the ticketed cars was in front of one with an awning for the restaurant with potted plants decorating the entrance. I talked to some people at the restaurant and they told me they have a request in to turn that section into 2 hr limit and that not having people be able to park in front is not good for business. Please see the photo with my other comment. Maybe a request for a 2 hr limit might be a hint to the PPA that these are businesses not garages. I did not get a ticket, I can appreciate the difficulties my neighborhood will have because of this false ticketing. I would like local business to stay open and residents to be able to park a reasonable distance from their homes. If there was an actual reason that be something different, but this is completely ridiculous. The last 2 years no one has mistaken the stores for garages. I have trouble believing suddenly they look so very different. I would just like the PPA to use some common sense and ticket cars that break laws and not ticket cars that are following the law. I don't this that should be an unreasonable request.

I emailed Customer service and Ticketing at the PPA several days ago. I am still waiting for a response. I have not seen any tickets in the last few days, but I have not heard anything official either.

I completely agree with Ada that this is a ludicrous act by PPA. That entire block of S 16th St has no signs or yellow/restricted parking. At night, that entire west side of S 16th St appears to be garages because the Nam Son restaurant closes at 9pm and even that entry is a pull down garage door. There is no entry/exit/deliveries in any of these garages doors at any time so there is naturally no restriction for parkers. PPA ticketers need to learn their areas and abide by the posted signs, which there are none on this block.

Update: I did not see any tickets this weekend. I followed up with someone who filed for an appeal an there ticket at least has been updated to a 0 balance without having to spend a day going in for a hearing. Hopefully others have had the same result. I hope to get hear something definitive from enforcement... Once I do I'll let you know and hopefully we can close this as "fixed" soon!

Ticketing has been Temporarily suspended. If ticketing is resumed for "blocking driveways" there will first be fliers on the cars warning of the change. This is what I was told be a person in the enforcement department today. So unless we see fliers it is once again safe to park!

Enforcement department of PPA says they are reviewing and have suspended ticketing for blocking driveways for this area. Fliers will be given to alert cars if ticketing is going to resume.
