My co-worker, who is vision impaired, needs this to be fixed immediately. It is endangering her and others who depend on this to cross safely.

This crosswalk is at an intersection that is used by several people with an array of challenges. There are offices in the Charlotte East Business Park that individuals with visual, physical, mental and other challenges frequent. This is truly a dangerous liability.

If this was a non-working traffic light, it would have been fixed a LOT faster!! To those who are visually impared the talking crosswalk is just as critical to their safety as a traffic light is to drivers....this needs to be fixed in as timely a manner as any other traffic device.
Just because there are less visully impared folks than able sighted drivers does NOT mean that they are less inmportant!!

A talking crosswalk that doesn't work is a serious issue to remedy as soon as possible.
Talking crosswalks serve an important function, and this particular crosswalk has at least one sight-impaired citizen who needs and would use its services every day of the work week. Her safety depends on it, as does the safety of any sight-impaired person in the area--of which there could be many, since it's located in an area where there are several social service related organizations and offices that draw hundreds of people each day.
Please make fixing this talking crosswalk a priority.
Thanks.

Please fix this broken safety feature that allows the visually impaired to cross this intersection more safely. This issue is not only important to those who need it, but also to many others that have the capacity to care about the needs of others.
Extreme Makeover Home Edition recently had an episode that featured a visually empaired couple. In that episode, talking crosswalks were installed in the town! The elected leadership of that town really seemed happy to be on TV in support of the visually impaired. Maybe WBTV can use its connections to get an interview with the decision makers, who have yet to take action on this, and put the spotlight on them. Putting those people on TV will get this fixed faster than doing an interview with the visually impaired who've already voiced their concern.
Respectfully,
Jason

Thanks Jason for your reply. But we do prefer speaking to someone who utilizes that crosswalk. It would bring a better understanding to why there is a need, as opposed to a reporter standing there saying it. And it would help our case when we bring it to the attention of the proper agency to fix it. That said, we're already in touch with an individual who uses that crosswalk and would like to see it fixed. Thanks for comments.

From Christine Nelson WBTV:
Hello all.
We asked Charlotte DOT to take a look at this crosswalk. They did and it turns out the system does work. In order to activate the "talking" feature, the button has to be pressed for 1.5 seconds. I went out there and tried it myself and it worked for me. CDOT has offered to show anyone how to use it. Thanks for using See, Click Fix!
Regards,
Christine Nelson, WBTV
