This smell has been going on for 5 or more years. Yes we can call and report it but it is still going on. When is the township really going to do anything?
This happens every year when the heat comes. It is nice and ripe this year. Target on Gratiot between 14 and 15 is a good place to get a whiff of it. Yummy.
But they have been there over 20 years They have helped the community Why complain now!!!!! What do you expect the owners and workers to do for a living?
Michigan Unemployment?
UNI-Dig may have been there all those year, but it has only been since they were forced to move their operations from upper Macomb county that we are now getting all the smell. They are supposed to spray to cover the smell, but with this weather it does not help. It also dosn't help that they are over there allowed amounts.
so when i bought my house over on Masonic and Harper 28 years ago it never stank. The stink didnt come until 5 years ago or so. I dont care how good they have been I didnt buy a house that I cant go in the yard or open my windows on nice days just to be hit in the face with the horrible smell. I was here before them!!
I LIVE TWO MILES AWAY FROM THERE AND I SMELL IT ALL THE TIME. THEY NEED TO DO SOMETHING, IT MAKES ME SICK TO THINK ABOUT ALL THE HOMES THAT ARE EVEN CLOSER THEN I AM. I WONT EVEN GO TO THE SHOPPING CENTER OVER THERE ANYMORE..
I live in Harrison Township and going down Quinn Road from Harper you can smell it. It has gotten much worse in the last couple of years. it is very difficult to get out of your car in that area. The smell is getting further away all the time sometimes you can smell it on 15 and Harper and sometimes down on Grosbeck between 15 and 16. It is sickening. Yorgos restaurant has had it's business drop dramatically from it. They have a lawsuit started and need people to call and complain to the city. It is @#$% that Unidig get away with this. they are arrogant drunks and the city is being paid off to not do anything about it.
Grass clippings are not allowed in Michigan land fills so that's why these companies take them to uni-dig, they are allowed to accept that's stuff. The horrible smell is coming from the rotting grass clippings and leaves. I do agree something needs to be done about this but what? They had composting operations out in the country and when people moved out there and built their big homes they complained until they were shut down. If you move out to the country you should expect these smells be it animals or composting.
Does anyone have any idea where this stuff can be hauled too? Are people willing to pay the amount of money it would cost to possibly truck it out of state or farther out to less populated areas?
You don't have a clue what you are talking about. The smell wasn't there 10 years ago, didn't we have grass clipping and leaves then? It doesn't matter what the smell is coming from what matters is that their arrogance in not taking care of it goes unpunishable. All they have to do is cover it with some kind of chemical that covers up the smell just as they used to do a few years ago, they are rude and ignorant. All it is going tot take is someone that won't stop in pushing the city to make Uni Dig pay for the losses they are costing businesses in the area.
