I have an even better idea. Demolish that nasty little restroom in the background of that picture and build a new restroom along the waterfront. One that is large enough to accommodate anyone who needs to use it including, park goers, ferry riders and yes the homeless. Perfect design would be
Woman’s room: 8 stalls and an shower on the end.
Men’s Room: 3 stalls, 5 urinals and a shower on the end. Make it open for as many hours as possible.
It would cut down on public urinating and defeating and give the homeless a place to shower.
Perhaps a stupid question,
What’s wrong with the Park bathrooms that are already there? Are they closed? Is the porta-john for construction workers?
Jw, if Law Abider lives nearby she/he will not want the showers attracting homeless to the neighborhood or pony up the tax money to be spent on something like that.
Besides isn’t that part of the waterfront development plan?
Well how about a mobile shower? I saw where a bus was modified to provide showers to the homeless. That way they can have their privacy but they’re semi-monitored. You don’t want to provide a place to accommodate any drug use, and the shower area would need to be checked and cleaned after each use. Here’s a link...
The restrooms that are there were built for the Marina to be used by the Marina tenants. The portable restroom is scheduled for cleaning twice a week. The construction in the area may have impacted the use of the portable restroom. We will have it cleaned again asap.
Building a new restroom for the general public should be addressed by planning.
Artsem, you can all me "it", I really don't care. There you go judging me again. I simply want our tax dollars used responsibly and the homeless helped responsibly and in a way to improve the situation for all of us. I also want the homeless held for their trash and crimes they commit as is the same for people whom are housed. I really don't care if they trespass if they are responsible when they don't have any other options. Being homeless isn't an excuse to litter which is my main pet peeve. I have a hard time feeling sorry for anyone whom creates blight homeless or not.
There you go projecting again. You’re one of the most “judgmental” persons on this site. Ppl disagreeing with you is not the same as judging you, but your stating “Why you believe ppl are homeless to begin with; Which ppl are deserving of assistance; Which neighborhoods are entitled to priority clean ups and City resources; Who deserves respect and who doesn't; Who you consider to be Low Class or Low Lifes, and who is considered as a Human Being” is. You could truly benefit from some “self evaluation” before criticizing another person.
Thank you for reporting! A work order has been created for this issue. Staff will be scheduled to investigate this issue. We will keep you updated on our action.
L.A. the comments and terminology you have used draws me to the conclusion you would not want showers for the homeless (low class/ low life’s) near where you reside. Am I wrong? And now you’re saying, “you don’t care if they trespass” - as long as they’re responsible? What happened to 100% enforcement? If you don’t want people to draw those conclusions don’t write your comments.
I think we are lacking adequate restrooms open for public use. I see nothing wrong with having large public restrooms with showers open to the general public.
Jw I think its a great idea to have the restrooms and showers. The shower area could be sectioned off and opened only during certain hours when a monitor is present. So they aren’t left a mess for the next person wanting to use them and to prevent drugs being used in there.
Artsem, Litterers I call low class not homeless that was you judging in the past. I also consider littering a lazy, selfish , inconsiderate etc. act. Those actions are not part of a person with class as far as I know. Class has absolutely nothing to do with being homeless or not. Possessions and money are irrelevant. Class is an action anyone has the potential to have. All along I've said I was for managed camps which would obviously include facilities.I agree I don't always use the best words which can be construed in way I didn't mean them to be and don't always go into details of what I think I see as common sense etc.. I really don't believe in enforcing laws in which there are no real victims. 100% enforcement for litterers. I would fully welcome my obligated share of well managed homeless housing in my neighborhood but not litterers, dysfunction etc..
Artsem, I always have been the same person. My problem has always been with people behaving badly and still is and some of them happen to be homeless. I have a hard time sympathizing with bad behavior. Most of the littering in my neighborhood isn't from the homeless. I have housed people who didn't have stable housing by bartering etc. in the past. A Homeless shelter was put across the street from my business in the past. I didn't feel I needed to explain all of this. I am constantly picking up trash and am frustrated as such. When I get tired of picking up after others or sick my neighborhood starts to feel dumpy in a few days. Like night and day. This shouldn't be. That other side of me was all of you judging with out an open mind and some of that is my word choice which I apologize for but will most likely happen again as this is frustrating to me especially when people make excuses for littering.
Woes me, tote that barge lift that bale. I’m tired of my neighbors trash and picking it up too. Yes, this should not be. Maybe try getting your frustrations out in front of the City Council members, City Manager, Mayor or Police Chief.
Yes Artsem, Communicate my frustrations just like I do on this this website and get treated like I do here by you and Dee. Sounds like fun and time well spent. NO Thanks. Have no faith in the system and very little in people especially many city employees which remind me of the kind of people you and Dee seem to be. I'm tired of the endless government dysfunction, something I can't fix and don't really believe they care what I have to say. It would be much easier to ignore and not care if I can only learn how. I am not trying to attack you, it is just the way I feel.
