I've seen Kingston police talking to prostitutes there...then they pulled me over after i came out with a pack of cigarettes, and was asking me questions about drugs while the prostitute went back about her business. The cops are letting all of it happen. Evey one knows where these crimes are going on, including the cops. No one will do anything about it. Ive been offered heroine and crack, numerous times, just walking up Broadway minding my own business.
I was spit on by a prostitute for turning them down when they rudely asked if i needed anything while I was walking to a friends. I've been stabbed by wannabe gangsters for not going down when they jumped me for no reason. The Kingston Police are a big problem. They basically seen me get stabbed, as well as my brother when he got stabbed a year earlier, and let the assailants walk away. The police need to get their hands out of the criminals pockets and grow a pair of nuts.
I can't tell who or how many people are writing here... is it one person or several?
Something is amiss in the way seeclickfix is operating...
while the email is confidential, there needs to be some unique ID to represent the citizen.
I have to agree with the comments about the Kingston Police, are are a few, not all, but too many that have the patrol of the Sunoco area, who do pay prostitutes for sex, I worked as a waitress and was offered $100, if by two officers if i was to have sex with them.. and no i did not.
I work nearby and see the human waste every day. Its one stop shopping : Beer for underage buyers,Drugs, prositutes, all wittnessed by myself.
The trash that hangs out there uses the back of the building for sex and as a bathroom, one can smell the urine on a still hot summer day! The police are there on official business almost everyday. Shut this crap-holem down! Write to Sunco about a franchise that is a scab on broadways face!
I stopped going there for gas about 2 yrs. ago. I leave for work @ 5a.m. and almost every morning someone would ask me for money and tell me some lame story about a car breaking down or gas money. Sometimes I think the powers that be let it alone because at least then, they know where the crime is happening. If so, that would be unfortunate for residents, and citizens, of Kingston
we need to get rid of these low lifes so all crime in our community wiil cease and when the police arrest them makes sure the judges put them where they belong not keep letting them back into our community
I strongly suggest people go to the common council meetings at the Town Hall, that is the first Tuesday of every month... at 7:30
The council giver their full attention to any citizen who wants to speak, stand up and be counted. Just a 30 second talk is all it takes.
And you can get an update there on what is happening in the city that is fixing this stuff...
And you can meet the other people who are working to get this problem cleaned up.
There is the Block by Block, the is the enforcement of the Nuisance Act, and the council is in a position to recommend a foot patrol.

Just had an awsome conversation with the property owners. The neighborhood watch and the company that owns the property are going to work togther to solve this issue.
They are just as outraged as we all are about the crime and drugs that lingers at that location!
Suzy, that's a great idea. Actually, many years ago Ulster County had an outreach program for people addicted to drugs and for mentally ill and homeless people. Social workers would find the people in need and convince them to get help. I'm not sure how many people got treatment but it sure is better than calling people low-lifes . The program got cut because of the budget woes. That's too bad.

For several nights it seemed that some real action had been taken. I did not see the usual loitering in the parking lot and I was pleased that *maybe* the owners had *really* done something. These hopes were shattered Friday night!
General Lee, if you're referring to this article, it didn't happen at my favorite Sunoco station:
http://dailyfreeman.com/articles/2009/04/28/news/doc49f68a959ebc3306658459.txt And "right-on" phototaker!
Inside every street person is a story that will break your heart, and they have to cope with that every day somehow. I wouldn't want to trade lives...I've also been harassed at the Mobil station by the traffic circle in Kingston. I went right inside and brought it to the clerk's attention, saying if he was going to allow this, I was not going to continue to get any gas there, because it's too scary for me. He asked me where the person was and then stepped out from behind the counter and went out and confronted the offender and ran him off--which was very risky but immediately effective. I think the owners do care, but they also need to be reminded that their customers care. If you want something done, bring it to the clerk's attention. Take the initiative. Every time you are harassed go in and tell the clerk who did it and what they person did or said. But if you expect that you can just sweep this problem under the rug or just over towards another station, well dream on.
The people that work there are the problem too. I understand it isn't their fault that all the prostitutes and drug addicts flock to that store, but if the employees weren't ready to sell ciggarettes and beer to minors and in exchange for food stamps also I am sure they wouldn't be as attracted to that particular spot. This is not hearsay or anything like that. I am nineteen years old and was buying ciggarettes from them for about two years before I even turned eighteen. I have gone there with my friends, who were also minors at the time to use their sisters food stamp cards to buy ciggarettes. They just ring it up as a grocery item with the price of the ciggs. so you can use your food stamps. [[just as a note this was before you had the cash account on the benefit card]]. Like I said I am only nineteen and I can go into that store right now and buy a beer if I wanted to. I wouldn't even get asked for i.d. or anything because they think I'm "cute".
there are still a number of people loitering on the property at any given time, either drinking near the guardrail or panhandling.
The clerks do their best to handle people who are a nuisance INSIDE the store, and might continue to be responsive to complaints about those outside,
but as posted above, they also do things like accept EBT payments for beer and cigarettes.
There have been recent arrests there by KPD (one in particular was an open container violation), so it seems the police are aware that this is a problem area...not sure what it is going to take to completely resolve the issue, though.
As with most big problems, it will take ongoing persistence and a caring community.
I too have felt nervous getting gas there before. I still do it - generally in a suit and tie (what bigger target could I be wearing). But I've never been hassled. Don't give panhandlers money - they can get food if they need it from the Queens Galley or People's Place (give the money to those organizations!). Generally they use the money they panhandle for drugs or alcohol - since other money is restricted.
If you see something - as Mike Darcy says - record all the info and report it! Report it to the police and to the clerk inside, and the owners. Yes, it's a pain in the butt. But if you care - take action. Go out of your way.
Change comes slow. Don't expect overnight success. Don't give up! Keep up the watch.
Yeah I live in the area. It's great to watch the crap that goes on around midtown. Cops walking the beat might help. It's also great to watch people use their "Benefits" card to buy cigarettes, beer and get cash back at the Sunoco. I thought the card was supposed to reduce food stamp fraud what a joke. Another concern is the number of Pitbulls that seem to be invading midtown. It's only a matter of time before a kid, person or animal is attacked.
What ward are you in? Who is your alderman.
I'm in Ward 4, Shirley Hashiem.
Anyone who has some good stuff to say about their alderman, this is a good place.
The police should crack down on the Johns who are soliciting the prostitutes. If there was an on going effort maybe they wouldn't visit midtown for their fling.

My post got pulled. not blocked...completely gone. I guess the "powers that be" didnt like what I said so no one else is allowed to read it. Welcome back to the USSR people.
dont worry im sure there will be alot more comments about that location.I know what you mean it is a mess there i dont even want to stop for gas or coffee anymore, smells and the pros and drug addicts always walking up to you for money or ervices
I was wondering the same thing about the blocked comment. The terms for posting on SCF are clearly outlined;
" What happens if someone posts obscenity, junk or advertisements in an issue?
We have a strong community ethos and human moderators to control excessive and possibly fraudulent issue reporting. To date, there has been little to no vandalism of the website.
If you notice an issue or comment you believe to be inappropriate, please use the "flag as inappropriate" link. Use of that feature will immediately notify our moderators to review the content. The more information you give us about why that issue or comment is objectionable or out-of-bounds, the better prepared we'll be to evaluate the it.
What is acceptable behavior on SeeClickFix?
We have a strong community ethos. Constructive conversation focused on identifying, prioritizing and fixing issues is our goal. Therefore, keep it on topic and something you wouldn't mind having printed in the newspaper or on TV next to your picture. Or another question to ask yourself: Would I say this in front of my grandmother?
A few tips: * we believe conversation is good * personal attacks are bad * do your best to keep the conversation on solvable geographically focused problems * try to suggest solutions with each comment or move the conversation forward * respect fellow users
Can you explain acceptable behavior on SeeClickFix again? This time talk like a lawyer.
The use of the SeeClickFix website is governed by the Terms of Use. Really, anything that isn't the reporting of a valid, solvable, geographically-centered issue can be removed. Something for everyone to keep in mind when posting.
We all know who the prostitutes are,(1) Short fat blond abd toothless now riding in a blue compact car, (2)Tall skinny hispanic/black sporting sunglasses at all hours and usually sitting on the rail,(3) tall emaciated blonde toothless Farrah Fawcett hairdoo, (4) Medium build brown hair sometimes on a bike and usually tweaking. They are picking up guys daily. I am in a spot where I can see this go on day in and day out. I see a lot of pathetic old (and some not so old) men pulling over on Broadway and sometimes pulling into the parking lot and soliciting. It would be interesting to start taking pictures and posting them here.
I do not buy into that "Inside every street person is a story that will break your heart" crap, each one of these pigs are a pimple on the @#$% of society. My tax dollars are feeding them and taking care of the kids they arent allowed to keep anymore and they are out there spreading disease to these dirty old men and thier familys and making the neighborhood an eyesore so they can get over on the system and buy another rock to smoke.
YOur write up helps. Not a pretty picture. Thank you for the description of 4 prostitutes: at the same time it points the finger at the prostitutes, it points the finger away from every other woman who has the right to be on the street and NOT be considered a prostitute.
I'll see that I can recognize those women from your description. And note the unfortunate clients as well.
My own feeling is that things are going to change and are changing now. Just this here is new. People are looking and if they see something, they say something and that's good to know. People know they are not the only ones, they are not alone, and it's not their imagination. And everyone can see.
This is really the opportunity of a lifetime: to be in on the beginning of change in KIngston and to be able to take part in it, people taking care, looking out, cleaning up, planting gardens.
And when you're out on the street, don't forget to give the people a little smile.
And check out Kingstonhappenings.org to see what's happening in town.
keep on truckin'
LOOK AT THE BROADWAY FRONTAGE....."USED TIRES" REPAIR SHOPS, CHAIN LINK FENCES, FORMER GAS STATIONS USED AS JUNKYARDS/USED CARS FOR SALE.
THE CITY SHOULD BE MORE STRINGENT ON HOW "MERCHANTS" KEEP THEIR PROPERTY. THE ZONING SHOULD REFLECT WHAT GOES ON THERE.
LONG TIME KINGSTONIANS ACCEPT THESE TYPES OF USES AND THE CONDITION THEY ARE IN. IF THIS CITY (GOVERNMENT) IS SERIOUS ABOUT POSITIVE CHANGE, LOOK AT THE WHOLE PICTURE. THE PLANNING BORED (PUN INTENDED) NEEDS TO ADDRESS A CONCEPTUAL , LARGER PLAN FOR KINGSTON INSTEAD OF THE USUAL NARROW MINDED, SELF SERVING BUSINESS AS USUAL CONCEPT WHICH HAS PERVADED THIS FINE CITY FOR YEARS.
POWER HUNGRY CONTROLLING MASTERS OF KINGSTON'S FATE NEED TO BE REPLACED BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE ENTIRE CITY INTERESTS IN MIND INSTEAD OF HOW TO GET ELECTED AND SUPPORT THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR CAMPAIGN.
Very nicely done, thank you and you are quite right: the city does almost nothing in enforcement, just seeing that its laws are carried out. There are many violations on Broadway: maybe a modified block by block on Broadway would work? and likely it IS getting included in the process... I did notice the Honda lot had had it's weeds knocked down a few weeks ago.
By all means, contact your alderman.
And another office you might reach is the office of the Main Street Manager or the Mid Town Business Association, part of the Kingston Business Alliance, all of which get special attention and funds from the City of Kingston.
and please see KIngstonCorridor.com: that aims to make the entire path through KIngston bright, pedestrian friends, and easily navigable.
There was a wonderful cleanup day that was organized by Friends of Historic KIngston and the Broadway portion of the corridor got swept: looks like we need to do that much more often than once a year.
But do write you alderman and the business organizations. And share that correspondence here.
There is also the problem by me ,, the Sunoco on Broadway by Earl B. Feiden .. There is constant prostitutes and drug dealers hanging out in front of it.. I do not even go in there any more.. It is hard to walk by with out getting asked if you have a dollar.. The police sometimes sit in the parking lot between the Sunoco and the back lot but it does not deter the riff-raff. It seems like both Sunoco's in Kingston are a problem that need to be handled in Kingston..
Maybe an answer is to go there more often. Anybody NOT a prostitute or a drug user, that would be a plus, yes? Well, I'm neither (for any number of reasons :-)
So, I'll make it a point to stop in there often. I live close, on Maiden Lane, no problem for me.
Old joke about Texas where someone said it was nice, but all it needed was some water and some good people.
It was observed that Hell would be much improved with the same additions.
Water and good people: that's all it takes.
A reasonable person who is going to chose not to be intimidated will agree with you, GB. It's not like it's the old west there. It's just a presence that might not feel so comfy anymore if citizens took a stand and demonstrated their normalcy.
(Leave a bottle of water to show your support.)
Tell you what: I watered some flowers and pulled some weeds off some ornamental grass at the (very very sad) "Welcome to Midtown" plantings on 32 & Broadway.
I wonder who owns that? That is of course Ward 4, alderman Shirley Hashiem.
I'll send her a note on the ward 4 yahoo group....
I don't think you need to worry about this problem. Soon Urban Renewal will come in and tear down the ghetto and move the scum to another part of the city. That's how the problem was solved back in the 60's. The City of Kingston is nothing more than a joke anymore. You couldn't pay me to move back there.
Mike we are trying to be positive but it is so too.. It is getting crazy here in K-town.. I live right off Broadway in not such a great neighborhood. I have lived in Kingston on and off for over 18 years and have seen so much.. I am tired of the police abuse and lack of concern, not all of them but most.. I try to give them the benefit Mike I really do,but it is bad.. That is why I am leaving with my family in less than a year and moving south.. I have had enough.. I live near Sunoco.. by Earl. B. Feiden.. I see all of the bull and all of the nonsense that goes on by me.. Especially the hookers that have sex near my house and it takes KPD 20 minutes or more to respond.. It makes me sick.. I hope your Watch has great success because it will need it.. I have had 3 of my family members already move this month and i am soon to follow..
TIRED IN K-TOWN..
No doubt some who are leaving have already contributed to holding the line in Midtown... I lived down on West Union for a couple of years and the couple next door, (Robert S. and his lovely wife of years and years) and the 7th Day Adventist Church folk held their part of the neighborhood together until some help came along...
There are yet some fine homes and people in Midtown. and I think things are getting better. But yeah, if you can afford it, move away from Midtown... makes sense. Your responsibility to do right by your family comes first. Heck, you could move to lots of nicer places in KIngston. But moving south, to be with family: of course. Best of luck. And thanks for being here.
We have some really fine new aldermen: Levin, Fuentes, Clement: they JUST got in and they are making a huge difference... and more to follow. If we had someone in Ward 4, strong, like Fuentes in Ward 5, wow, what a huge difference that could make! And this Neighborhood Watch: it is the most active and effective citizen anti crime action I've ever seen... nothing came close.
And look how it is leveraging technology to get us all talking... just a few months ago, this would have been impossible.
So, good luck to you, and good luck to us too.
I just walked past Earl B. Feiden at 11 am today and there is a bullet hole in there front window. I may be wrong it could be from a huge stone, but I doubt it. I know bullet holes when I see them.. I live right near them.. This is what I am moving from.. I just walked past there at 10.30 with my daughter and saw no hole!! I used to live right near Mike on Wall St. and had creepy people on the street.. I lived there in 2006.. Mike was a great guy then and still is today.. I remember when he worked on the house next door and was nice to my kids and me in the winter. Helping me shovel out the car on the street.. I wish the watch huge success and i hope the next mayor gets Kingston in shape.
I stopped in and saw MIke and his wife. (I just bought at washer/dryer there)
It was a gun, it went though 2 windows, dented an appliance.
Police were called, all was written up, only bullet fragments were found (glass is hard)
It seems a man with a gun was seen around 3 a.m.
It would be sooo nice to have a late night security camera... that's when the cameras are really needed, to watch for us when we can't. Be cool, to have the whole midtown section of the Kingston Corridor watched... like, from like 1am to 5 am.
You know, if that place were safer, you might see MORE people enjoying the cool summer night.
Might miss some, but might get some, and none of the good guys are getting watched by "big brother"
Mr. Berke now Midtown has a newer problem that has been bothering me and the police have done nothing to help me.. I have had a man named Bill living in his car hear my home.. He had his car on the property of Perry's and then they towed it on the public street on the Vandeusen side. right next to my house. It sat there for 3 weeks with a blown engine . The man Bill urinated and does awful things near the car and has people in it all weekend long. I am not the only neighbor to complain to Perry's.. Tonight they asked Bill to remove his car from the public street. Which he did, Right in front of my house until I caught him pushing it there( it does not run).. I told him to get the piece of crap out from in-front of my house. He pushed it up and down Vandeusen until he realized it could not stay.. Family owned homes and such, so he pushed it on Broadway to M&L Pretty nail Salon on Broadway.. Right in front of Perry's.. I called the police at 8pm to tell them that Bill was pushing this car all over the street.. NO RESPONSE.. I called back at 8;30 still NO RESPONSE. just a WE WILL CHECK IT OUT.. STILL AT 8;43 PM NO RESPONSE.. I can see the car from my window.. This man is homeless and lives in his car and defecates near it.. What is wrong with the police?
Oh my, that IS unacceptable. Let's get this one taken care of.
Please send me the address... to gberke@gmail.com We do have to find out why something like this seems to be so very hard.
I see a Mitsubishi Diamante there...
Suggestion: Start a new issue so we can track this...
By the way, Vandeusen is one nice street! The yards are really well kept, and you have commerce right there, a cabinet shop and a new art gallery opening in that great little building near Broadway. Taking a while, but I expect that will be open to visitors on Kingston's First Saturday.
Yes, a new issue, open it, we'll work on it, and get it closed. But these things take a little bit of time, so if it takes a week or two, please hang in there.
Thanks.
I printed off a copy of the whole string, so this whole string can be closed and reopened afresh.
thank you Mr. Berke.. the Mitsubishi is still another car that Perry's has on the street and not on there property. it is supposed to be towed away but they leave it on the street so it does not take up room on there property for cars they are working on.. The car in question is still at M&L nail salon on Broadway. right across the street from Perry's. And he was in it last night, being homeless and all..
nice if you'll give your email address to Mike D.?
so we can ask and get in touch directly without having to post our names and email here... some might not want to
the new issue is labeled under Homeless man living in his car.. I am getting bashed on this issue. I have done so much to help this man Bill with his homeless problem. i have called all of the available agencies. I even spoke to Chiz at the Queens Galley to see if he could get a room. No Go. He was thrown out last year.. I talked to Tom at Eliz . Manor.. No way he said. he was thrown out last year.. I called my friend at Crime Victims and she had a friend from Family get in touch with me, Bill does not want the help.. I did not call the police about this matter until Bill urinated and defecated next to the building. Then I was mad.. I am done with this issue.. I see how the other people are responding to this issue and it makes me sick.. I have bent over backwards.. I am sorry but I am done with this issue..
This is all true, and this person is way not the only one: I think every agency has had a crack at Bill P and in call cases, unless he is a hazard to himself or to the public, he MUST ask for help.
For whatever can or can't be done, I consider these postings a warning call to everyone, look out, those hurried sounds the birds make when the cat or some such is around.
It helps a whole lot to let people know... thanks for the heads up.
It's a tough case, but it happens.
By the way, there is some really good stuff happening on that very same section of Broadway... I'm working on a write up....
This really is going to be a good year for KIngston!
Bill is obviously mentally ill, have you tried a call to Social Services? Unless he's a danger to himself or others, I don't think the police can do anything especially if he can speak and sign for himself. He may be mentally ill, but there's just enough there...somehow he's surviving and he's developed his own system which works for him. You'll never change someone like that. He needs more than supported living. He needs to be in a group home.
This morning i stopped at the sun and there was about 12 to 15 Hispanic's at the franklin st side of the building
when one of the stations clerks came out and looked
one of the group said "what the F#$# are you looking at get the f#$%^ back inside"
the clerk went back inside
they are scared of these people and calling the cops on them will only result in the clerks getting hurt by them
Michael D'Arcy please relay this information to the property owners
It seems like the nicer the weather, the more people you see hanging out near the Sunoco...I refuse to go anywhere near that store and am scared to go in there. It seems like there are always people hanging out in the parking lot, all times of the day or night. Yes we want businesses in mid-town, but not the kind that attract drugs and prostitution. It does seem like the police are patroling mid-town more than usual.
I have passed this information onto the propery owners. the woman I spoken with was in agreement about the complaints and will be taking these steps to correct it.
1: She has called the owners of the station about this issue already. If you look over all the replys here you will see that I have delt with this issue before.
2: She will be calling them again, aswell as sending someone personally to speak with the owners.
3: She will be calling KPD to see if they can keep a closer eye on that propety.
Now she also said that if this coninues that she will go over ALL OPTIONS to bring this to an end.
Lastly....
Hi, I'm Mike D'Arcy. I'm no different then anyone posting here, I have no real connections to get huge things done here in the city. When this topic was started, all I did was lookup who the owners where thru public information. Posted the information here, and made a few phone calls. Any of you could step up and do the same.

Hi just got off the phone with Mike D again. I have called the manager at this location and the lease holder and I have had another long discussion with them regarding the issues that are ongoing. Both parties have told me that they will be more attentive to the goings on there and will call the police more to have these people removed from the property. I went to the next step and called KPD and spoke to LT. Gaston (not sure on the spelling). I briefly told him of the complaints and the times of day basically early morning and the evening hours. he told me he would write up for increased patrols during those times and also asked me to have the manager call in more for complaints and sign complaints regarding the activity. Internally we are going to put the lease holder on written notice that they are in jeopardy of lease revocation if they do not make an effort to resolve these issues.
It may not sound like much but we are trying.
Not sure if people were aware that on 07/02/10 at 5:55 pm by Feiden's a male was slashed or stabbed. I saw a suspect jump in car and recorded license # and gave to state police. I went on vacation after so I did not post this info till now. If you see something say something. Take care all.
i almost hate to say this, but the police can do only so much. unless a prostitute solicits a police officer, he cant arrest them. unless an officer witnesses a crime, they cant make an immediate arrest. and then, once an arrest is made, its usually a violation.... which means that they normally get released. so then it goes to the courts (of which i have yet to see anybody here criticize). everybody expects the police to fix ANY problem ... from a dispute over a cell phone to fixing a light bulb.. the public needs to take responsibility for its own actions instead of being spoon fed. jmo
Now, WHAT DO WE DO ABOUT IT? What happened to boot-legging? Where is the employment opportunities? Where as all the MONEY gone?
Entrapment is considered 'normal' in todays society;
police consider todays society a war zone of FEAR. The only detrament to living FEAR and punishment is the only resolve that accomplishes ABSOLUTELY nothing!
The only detriment to LIVING is FEAR; Punishment is the only accepted RESOLVE to that fear - ABSOLUTELY nothing no matter how far back in Anglo-Roaman history we go has ever been accomplished without HEALTHY anti-sickness ECONOMIES. Crime & Fear is flourishing like never before; THAT IS, since its last ignored CONSTANTLY REPEATING crime & fear cycle DOWN-HERE!
buford: the cops can't witness anything from inside their car at 30+ miles per hour, looking straight ahead as they should do at that speed.
they need to get out of their cars.
come to the common council meeting. Tell the aldermen and your fellow citizens you want the cops on foot at least part of the time they are on duty.
no worries, ger. its all good. i know that sometimes my posts get taken the wrong way, too!! you're right in that it would be nice have officers walk the beat. problem is the manpower. maybe sottile will approve some overtime so the police can put a few more cops on the beat.
Thanks.
re the cops: I find it not a good idea to answer my own questions, but rather put the question to the responsible party and have them answer it.
If I were told by a person in office "hey, we have a manpower problem" I might ask what that has to do with a cop stepping out of his cruiser and walking around a block is a manpower problem. And then I'd wait for the explanation.
If to each question I might have, the answer comes back from them "manpower", well, I'd get a chance to question how that affects the current question.
But if all I get is myself, well, I for sure do not know all the day to day details of the police force: why the hell would I believe me? What do I know?
i would highly recommend to all to listen to a police scanner. the reason why they dont get out of the cars is because they dont have time to!! plain and simple. when you see them driving, they're more than likely driving to handle a complaint. look at the police blotter on the city's main website and see how many calls they handle. and, when you listen to the scanner, you'll hear them handling nothing but stupid disputes. dispute over a cell phone, car keys, the channel on tv, money, whos going to be driving driving a car, why did someone come home late. it's ridiculous that the police are called to such petty things that people, who have half a brain, could very easily solve on their own.
And that's why, in my opinion, they don't get out of the cars.
You may say you do or don't want police on the beat, and you may decide for yourself not to ask for a reason. You state your opinion, your reasoning.
However, I disagree and would rather that the citizens continue to press the matter and raise the priority of having police occasionally get out of their cars, especially in the moments when they are not responding to an urgent call. And not all calls are urgent.
There is always some flexibility in scheduling and the answer is to be creative, deploy your manpower strategically, do more with less. Indeed, working with less is a good exercise for honing management skills.
We all know how to cut back, and often we do so and find it to our advantage.
This citizen is confident that there is an hour, someplace, that a cop can be on the beat. What is surprising is that there is not a single minute when one is. A perfect score. And that can't be.
Here we are, thinking about simple, rational responses that could be made. It certainly seems reasonable.
I remember a great cartoon by Shel Silverstein, two guys hanging from shackles by their wrists off the floor on a prison wall, and one guy says to the other: "now here's my plan...."
So, what's our plan?
It would be nice if there were a place where police and citizens could talk.
If there were a cop on the beat, anytime, one could simply walk up and ask the question. "Hey, you guys know about Sunoco?"
It is good this exchange is taking place... is documents the level of concern, the date and time and certain events. It's here to see by any and all, including the police, the aldermen, the mayor.
If there was a no loitering law in Kingston that might help Sunoco deal with their problem and midtown as well and a curfew for kids under 17 to be home by 11pm.
Was driving past this morning and I stopped as I saw several men sitting on the guardrail. I went in got the mamnager to come out then called the police. I waited for a cruiser to come by and asked to have the men leave the property..no loitering. The manager and I had a long talk with the responding officer about what we need to do to try change this location from being a hang out. It's gonna take time but we are trying to stay on top of it.
It's private property: the fact that the manager supported that action is wonderful.
While the manager is doing that, it would be a good time for us to stop by and buy a paper, some milk, something...
That would be good support from the Neighborhood Watch, for instance.
If there's no one sitting outside, you might notice that and say, hey, nice... sometimes there are a whole lot of people hanging around...
I am glad to see that the Manager Mitch N. has been taking responsibility and calling the police on people loitering in front of this business. I totally agree with one of the other writers about a NO LOITERING SIGN. I believe this will help the business and help police enforce the law.. It will be so much nicer to walk past there on Broadway with out the harassment or to see the groups of prostitutes hanging around the property..
I apologize if I come off crass, but I feel we got way off subject. The Sunoco station has been a problem for a while. Is there any chance security cameras could be placed prominently on the premises-in the parking lot? Or the owners could be asked to stop selling beer? Could Verizon remove the Pay Phones (like they've done in most of the region)?
7-11 used to have a similar problem with loitering until the corporate management came up with a novel idea. Ever since some locations began piping in classical music, loitering has dissapeared entirely at some locations. Any chance Sunoco could do the same?
I don't know if you know this, but every city in the Empire State has a Broad Way as a showplace and centerpiece of the city (think of Manhatten). Unfortunately for Kingston, this is quickly becoming the ugliest part. There's a reason a Beautiful Theater (UPAC), the original Carnegie Library and KHS, the original Armory, City Hall and all those old brick buildings done so well (like Earl B. Feiden's) are all on Broadway. The broken window approach should be taken to improve this avenue-starting with Sunoco.
The design charrette on Kings Inn focused 100 people on midtown all day: UPAC, Seven21, SecondChance4, work on the 587 interchange... all this is happenin: all of midtown can be informed, all of midtown can be involved.
Feidens, and many other old buildings on Broadway are of architectural interest. Shaun Johnson, a local Kingston man, has been photographing those buildings, the interesting things we no longer see or see only as blight.
Personally, I like Feidens, glad it is there: it's good and it is what it is and it works... a good local long time business. I shop, and I get my appliances there.
well since the emails last week when I have been driving on broadway and there is a police car in the vicinity, it pulls into the parking lot so at least for the weekend the convenience store was an approachable place to shop on broadway...lets hope that the efforts of all in bringing the issue to the forefront will be the first step at this time in really helping the betterment of the Broadway corridor......
I have been going by the Sunoco almost daily.I have seen the clerk ( I am assuming, please forgive me) since I do not go in the store.. He has been coming out and checking the lot and the guardrail and telling people to leave if they are loitering. It is so nice to see Sunoco looking clean. I will go in and use the services if i see that there is a constant awareness of the staff, management and the owner keeping up on there responsibilities.. The only thing now is that the prostitutes sit across the street and yell for the Johns that pull in the lot behind Sunoco or they sit at the soon to be opened Restaurant on the corner of Broadway and Down.. Well, nothing is perfect but it is a start..
Yelling for Johns WILL get them arrested. That is soliciting. I personally will call that one in.
If there is that kind of calling, the best they can say is "I wasn't talking to him."
I am 19 years old. I live very close to the Sunoco gas Station. Not only do the crack heads, and prostitutes hang out there, but when they are told to get off the Sunoco property, they scatter to the 3 closest corners. 2 of the known prostitutes in midtown sit on the stoop at 666 broadway daily. Johns are picking them up all times of the day. I saw an elderly man in a forest green suv picking up one of them on the corner last week. I also saw a newer silver suv picking up the same prostitute about 3 weeks ago, but I didnt see the driver. I go to the sunoco often, due to the fact that I dont drive. At first I wouldn't go alone at night, but now I can't go there alone during the day. I buy cigarettes and I have to ask for a bag, otherwised Im harrassed all the way home. There is one man in particular who has asked me several times for a cigarette, when I refused I got called the b word. Until my boyfriend came out of the store, and when the man saw that I wasn't alone, he apologized. Unless you have an excellant job, we have to live in these crappy areas. But regardless of how much I pay in rent I should feel safe to walk in and out of my home. Then there are all the crack heads begging me for money. Most of them arent threatening, but Im getting sick of having to make sure I have exact change in my pocket going to the closest corner store. I shouldnt have to worry about getting robs. We need to arrest these drug addicts and get them some help and out of our community! Who the heck would want to have and raise kids here??? And yes if u pass the Sunoco around 7 am there are several HIspanic men sitting by the dumpster or on the rail, waiting for work. There not suppose to be here in the first place! I do agree that we need evidence ... next time I see them hanging out on the corner I'll make sure my camera is full and ready!
It seems the men of Kingston are not doing their basic job of seeing that the Sunoco station or perhaps any other place in midtown safe for women and children. The notion that there has to be a man right there is offensive.
Contact Jennifer Fuentes, ward 5 alderman... And join here ward 5 yahoo group: she gets things done.
I live just one block from Sunoco.. Lately the same bunch of Hispanic men have been sitting around Sunoco. I guess it depends on who is working,.Some days it is good to go by and some days I am afraid to walk by.. I believe the black male who always asks for cigarettes, his name is BOO.. That is what I was told his name is.. He is around there day and night.. I see him hanging now by Earl B. Feiden.. I see they have no soliciting in front of the store.. Sunoco needs to put up the same signs.. I also see that the same prostitutes are hanging by M&L nail salon all hours of the day and night.. I watch the police go by while she stands on the corner for hours at a time and wave down JOHNS.. The police do not seem interested.. Have you heard of any prostitute stings or of any being arrested in the paper..NO... What are the police doing when they drive by? I would like to know...
His allias is Boots not BOO. I have seen him in Earl B Feiden's parking lot and surrounding areas. The signs at EBF seem to have some effect on the local ladies and they no longer hang out around the store from what I have observed. Just a reminder If you see something say something. Take Care Kingston.
annonymous wrote: "Have you heard of any prostitute stings or of any being arrested in the paper..NO... What are the police doing when they drive by? I would like to know... "
well, anny, yes! there have been many prostitution stings. but you won't see anymore, though. wanna know why? because stings cost money for overtime. how effective do you think a 'sting' is gonna be when the po-po shows up in uniform in a marked police cruiser? and since hizzoner decided to cut the police budget in 1/2, there is hardly any money for anything. the citizens should be lucky that the phones still work on garraghan drive. the mayor has authorized money be spent on patrols only. any overtime generated by contractual obligations (overtime by minimal staffing and court) is it! no stings! no nothing!!
this is what your elected mayor has 'elected' to do. you just wait til he announces MORE layoffs to the city pd. you think newburgh is bad? don't forget that just this week a 10 year old boy was killed by gunfire! this is exactly what kingston is going to become. why? because the mayor refuses to support the police department. he would much rather cut the police force even more rather than cutting hizzoners precious consultants.
and where are the police going when they drive by? probably to the usual b.s. calls they get on a constant basis because people have to be animals instead of being civil.
kingston IS destined to become another newburgh. you wait and see. and who can we thank? hizzoner!!
and dont think that the pd personnel heads are the only ones on the chopping block. other city workers will be out on development court as well. it is so sad that this mayor is driving this city into the ground and no one is going to do anything about it.
bookmark this quote because in a year from now, you'll be believing my words.
I strongly disagree with bufords view that police more means better. Buford seems concerned with the employment status of the police as opposed to their performance, which is, in a word, poor.
It is a good question that many people in Kingston could ask: where are the police cars going, how is it tha they cannot get out of their cars to meet and greet the citizens, how is it that the city cannot hire part time police to put on the beat in the well known trouble spots in Kingston?
Bad government, a bad alderman or two, a less than energetic police force... it adds up.
It does not take a major police hiring just to fix the Sunoco problem. Stopping, looking around, following the leads of the many citizens who have written here, that takes a couple of hours over a couple of weeks: people breaking the law know they are breaking the law, and don't want to be recognized by the police certainly don't want to attract them. They know they are carrying drugs, etc, and don't want to risk a search.
That's putting it nicely, but I like it- "a less than energetic police force." It's true, not all but many. They don't want the calls and they don't want to do anything about them. I want the Sunoco/surrounding area problem fixed too! It's unsafe.
This is why I know 4 families that are leaving Kingston in the next 6-12 months. I am one of them. I am going south where it is better and the community actually cares about crime.. My daughter is staying for God knows why? She has friends and is an adult.. I hope she has a decent Kingston to live in or she is going to follow me to my new State.. Kingston needs to improve or it will be in trouble.. I have always loved and cared for Kingston. Some really nice people and I love going to my church but it is getting too hard to like it here.
his name is Boo Aka ellis Harris his brother is getting out of prison for cedar st shooting so watch out for him ! BOO is no threat just an annoyance
also watch out for wheelers and bryan and jill greeke
There are lots of reasons for a person to leave Kingston, to leave NY and to head south. And that is a personal choice and age, employment, hobbies, relatives all play a part. And there are manta reasons to come here too, including the world famous Hudson River Valley, the fabulous food, the farmers markets that dot the county, the incredible opportunity for arts, the air, the water. And it may be hard to stay after clocking sone hard years waiting and watching. Things look hopeful, and then don't pan out.
But in over 40 years in Kingston and Old Hurley and Woodstock, 2010 is the beat year for Kingston, ever.
An artistic and tech savvy bunch of people have taken their energy and activism to the net and the place is hopping. Kinstoncitizens.org is a great place to start and find wonderful links, and then there is kingstonhappenings.org of the Main Street Manager and new aldermen Hayes and Andi and Jennifer bringing really good government to our town.
I am leaving for many reasons but the biggest is the BS that goes on in Kingston... I have been a member of this community for 15 years.. I have always lived in the Hudson Valley.. I love this state.. but taxes are crazy , unemployment issues and I can not buy an affordable house here.. Where I am moving I am buying a 2 bedroom fully move in condition for 12 thousand.. Can you tell me where I can buy a house like that around here? Kingston needs to get new leadership and stop the same old song and dance.. If the city would improve more would stay.. I can not leave my house at night due to being afaid I will be robbed or harassed.. I live right by Sunoco on Broadway (Franklin) and i can not go to my neighborhood store!!! That is pathetic.. Kingston needs to think about its citizens and less on when the Mayor is going to get a new stage for the Roundout...
Yes. You sure are correct, we are becoming another Newburgh, I want to move so bad, but with the economy it's almost impossible. At the same time though, this is my home town, I wish Kingston the best, whether I'm here or not, something seriously has to be done. It's friday night and the somewhat heavy set blonde prostitute with all about 5 teeth in her mouth was hanging out on the corner of Downs and Broadway, like usual. I heard her say "It's friday night, everybody got paid, so I'm about to get paid in the late night". Soon after a car stopped they talked for about 60 seconds, and the car drove off. She was with a tall skinny african american woman with a shaved head, also a known prositute. I called the police and sat outside for 25 minutes. I was told they were going to send, quote "a few" cop cars, within 25 minutes i hadn't seen one!
As far as the police and the mayor go ---- the mayor has got to go!!!!!!! And police can pull people over in undercover cars, why cant they pull over and talk to the prostitutes and drugs addicts in undercover cars?!?!?! Doesn't make any sense. Speeding is wrong and quite dangerous, but I dont think it's any more dangerous than doing or selling drugs, or spreading disease by prostitution!!! Also I agree that "BOOT" is no threat, he's a crack head and annoying! In my last post i mentioned an african american man that begs for cigarettes and is very harrassing. I was not refering to "BOOT". I was referrintgt to an older man within 40-55 years of age. Tall and skinny.
Also, annonymous, on your last post, I agree 100 percent. I lived in north Charleton, S.C. for 4 years, loved it there! I came back for the family. It's almost unbareable here! I have been trying to convince them to move down south, because I'm not sure how much more I can take
Back to the matter at hand, I observed a dark colored pickup truck (with a landscaping logo on the door) drop off their workers at the Sunoco station as if it's some kind of drop-off/pickup spot. The workers, carrying lunchboxes, walked over to the guard rail and sat on it, hanging out waiting for their next ride, I guess.
I wish I had gotten the landscaper's company name, but it happened very quickly.
I totally agree that the Mayor is mostly the problem... Yes his name is BOO, but I was told on here his name is BOOTS.. Check the post by Eyes on midtown.. I have called the police many times as I live on Vandeusen and waited for them to show up,.. A pizza is faster to be delivered than the police.. Such a shame.. I called last week about 10 women and one man punching a women then when I saw the other man approach with a gun and I was on the phone the police they were here with in seconds.. But does it take that kind of violence to have them respond.. It is getting scary around here..
Personally, I don't see anything sinister in this: this is becoming a pickup place for day laborers. This is people going to work. There may be questions of immigration status but it is not crime, it is not prostitution, it is not public lewdness...
Indeed, this use might tend to drive out the less savory visitors... one could hope.
It is illegal to be here with out a visa.. It is a crime... countries would deport you in a heart beat.. I know from a relative this happened to. The day laborers discourage people from going in and they ask for a hand out.. I have been asked for money and cigarettes.. Kingston should do more..
It's illegal on the order of jaywalking, and no, you would not be deported by any other country.
It is a federal crime, enforceable only by the feds and meant to be applied at the borders and to control work permits and visas and in general are meant for security.
It is millions of people (approx 13 million) and years (approx 15) past the time it can be considered a crime. You'd get in more trouble with an F word or an N word.
It is however, a crime to aid and abet and entice people to work for you without a visa and therefore skirt labor and health laws: if you're planning to run for federal office, I'd stay away from that. If you're planning on employing 100 people in your factory, well, that could get you in trouble. If you've found a skilled laborer nothing prevents you from paying that person a fair wage for fair labor, being kind to them. It is mostly the laws of decency and fairness that is American.
It is a federal matter: tell your congressman and senator how you feel and how you will vote.
Find something serious to work on and then take some action: pick up litter, cut a lawn, write to your alderman. Shop local.
If someone assaults you in public, report the matter in writing to the police and see that you get a response.
Let Arizona sort this one out.
Get a pen name.
It is illegal to be in Italy or Spain if you outstay your visa.. I know this from a family member.. Please educate your self on Immigration policies before stating your opinion. I am not trying to put anyone in there place , but facts are facts.. This is the Wikipedia version on immigration status, and yes I believe in Arizona's new status on people who do not belong here.. if they want to stay do it the legal way.. We all live by laws and it is not right to break them. No matter how bad you want to be here..
Yes, they are day laborers, but they are sitting by the sunoco because they are not legally alowed in this country. I have no problem with mexicans or hispanics being in OUR country. But what I do have a problem with is, having them sit by the Sunoco and wait for people to pick them up. So that they can work tax free and send money to their country. while we pay taxes for them and the rest of them that are on welfare, food stamps, wick, temp assit, and medicaid. Yet I am an american citizen born and raised and work my butt off to pay bills but I can't get any assistace because I work my butt off at 2 jobs every week. i'm still not making ends meet, and at the same time can't get assitance either. But I pay taxes for people who are able to work, just not willing. Or they just work under the table. I pay taxes to those people who sit around Sunoco and the people whp ang out on the corners. While they eat for free, or should i say drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes for free I should say (at Sunoco). I don't mind bustin my butt every week to pay my bills, but I dont want my tax dollars to go to people that can work, but choose not too. This is crazy! We are suppose to be "the country to live in". But our country basically only benefits the outsiders, not the people born and raised. What's up with that?
When did this turn into an illegal immigration discussion? Unless the people in question are hooking or selling drugs, it's not relevant to the topic. The SeeClickFix idea is great, but when it starts to go off topic, it's turned into more of a soapbox rant forum than anything useful. Start a new topic if you want to see the illegal immigration problem addressed.
Boo used to be a professional boxer ,he was trained by Patterson! He was pretty good to it's a shame what this city has done to him, reminds me of the hurricane
Supreme78ism.. This board can discuss anything we wish too. It is relevant to the drugs and prostitution forum.. The people who sit at the Sunoco sell and consume drugs as well as being here illegally.. The prostitutes cattier to them and this is relevant.. If you are unhappy with what is posted then you should make another forum.. We are happy discussing what is happening at the Sunoco by Earl B. Feiden..
It is not clear at all that nothing has been done. If you look back in this list, you will see Jerry K, police department, saying what he has done, and there will be more on the way.
One of the things that gets done is that there is a shared awareness of the problem, and that some of the problems to some aren't problems to others.
There is a supposition of illegal activity going on, people all seem to agree it looks like crap... and there are nearing 200 comments. It will take a concerted read to go through all the comments to date, distill the results, and send that to the police, the newspapers, the aldermen.
And the are quite a few things happening that will affect Sunoco albeit indirectly, as neighboring properties get improved, as some of the abandoned buildings in the area get removed or maintained (see Hayes Clement) and then there is a comprehensive plan for Kingston being started, there is also a huge piece of work on the 587 interchange, Keegan is having an affect, there is more work on Broadway and St James, there is Seven 21 Media Center...
This is building up a sizeable record of citizens' views... and the whole acquisition and planning for the Kings Inn Motel...
Seeclickfix is technically lacking: for one thing, it's not searchable, and it's hard to generate numbers, there is no facility for sublinks: right now it's pretty much a elementary tool, with almost no moderation or filtering of what is going on. That is a serious short coming.
So, everyone gets to write their thoughts and bit by bit things are getting better.
Well last night Boo was standing in front of my car off of Broadway and he was having a conversation with it, doing magic tricks and then walked over to the fence and started talking to it. he was laughing and having a good time for himself. He was asking for smokes and money as usual,, When is something going to be done about people like this
KINGSTON – Law enforcement authorities raided a Midtown gas station this morning in connection with an investigation that turned up a scam involving the theft of perhaps $1 million in Ulster County social services money, police said.
Kingston Detective Lt. Timothy Matthews said two people were in custody and a third man, who is the owner of the Sunaco Gas Station on Broadway at Franklin Street, was still being sought.
Matthews said the theft involved the use of electronic benefit cards given to clients of the Ulster County Department of Social Services.
The scam operated this way:
For example, Matthews said, a client would give a gas station clerk the card for a $200 purchase. The gas station would keep $100 and then give $100 to the client.
Usually, Matthews said, the client would use that money to buy narcotics or other things that are not allowed for purchase, such as alcohol, with the electronic card.
Matthews said the gas station was collecting $6,000 of a month as part of the scam beginning in January, 2009. By October, 2010 that amount had risen to $60,000 a month, Matthews said.
“It steadily went up,” Matthews said.
Investigators started an investigation six months ago using undercover personnel to play out the scam, Matthews said.
The investigation was conducted by Kingston police, the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office, and the Ulster County Department of Social Services.
Stuff takes time. They have been working on this for 6 months, putting the case together. So, not 7 months, more like 30 days... the rest was putting the case together.
A big one in the win column! Let's not forget... this is a really big win!!!
Many many many thanks..
You can bet that there will be more... Not clear yet how many social services checks were going to the "wrong" people. And pity the "right people", who get social services, and get tarred with this brush.
Yes a big win for Midtown. Let's keep it going. That used to be one of my biggest problems with the store and watching that go on.
Thanks KPD for the due dillegence in fixing this matter.
hope they place a life time ban from the welfare system on those who use the benefit car for the wrong things
they should also look into weather or not any of the money was used for terrorist groups
i know that this sounds racist but you never know

Fire: If this really happened, you should have gotten the patrol car number (prominently displayed) called KPD and talked to the Lt.
It's *very* doubtful that any cop would pay *any* of the crack hoes for sex. Being on the street the cops are very aware of the deadly risks.
Having said that, I do agree that Sunocco *should* be cleaned up. It has long been a gathering place for dealers and prostitutes.

The trash that hangs out there uses the back of the building for sex and as a bathroom, one can smell the urine on a still hot summer day! The police are there on official business almost everyday. Shut this crap-holem down! Write to Sunco about a franchise that is a scab on broadways face!

I LOVE this Sunoco station!!! I always feel safe there because there's always police cruisers there!!!
I just tell the hustlers "I'm sorry I have no cash" and they leave me alone.
(I'm sorry those people have such hard lives. We could turn that Sunoco station into an Intake Station for Social Services.)

Hi Poster,
One of the other things you SHOULD do is collect as much information as you can about this situation.

And "right-on" phototaker!

I was wondering the same thing about the blocked comment. The terms for posting on SCF are clearly outlined;
Since you asked, these comments are provided for your convenience but are only a brief and incomplete summary of the Terms of Use which in no way modify or amend them. In order to fully understand the answer to your question, please read the Terms of Use in their entirety.
Remember, you are "entirely responsible" for what you post on the site. So, be careful how you behave. In particular, SeeClickFix bans behavior or content that is "unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable."
We reserve the right to edit or remove content violating the terms of use. Really, anything that isn't the reporting of a valid, solvable, geographically-centered issue can be removed. Something for everyone to keep in mind when posting.

1: She has called the owners of the station about this issue already. If you look over all the replys here you will see that I have delt with this issue before.
2: She will be calling them again, aswell as sending someone personally to speak with the owners.
3: She will be calling KPD to see if they can keep a closer eye on that propety.
Now she also said that if this coninues that she will go over ALL OPTIONS to bring this to an end.

re the cops: I find it not a good idea to answer my own questions, but rather put the question to the responsible party and have them answer it.
What do I know?
peace
buford (Invité)
i would highly recommend to all to listen to a police scanner. the reason why they dont get out of the cars is because they dont have time to!! plain and simple. when you see them driving, they're more than likely driving to handle a complaint. look at the police blotter on the city's main website and see how many calls they handle. and, when you listen to the scanner, you'll hear them handling nothing but stupid disputes. dispute over a cell phone, car keys, the channel on tv, money, whos going to be driving driving a car, why did someone come home late. it's ridiculous that the police are called to such petty things that people, who have half a brain, could very easily solve on their own.
And that's why, in my opinion, they don't get out of the cars.
citizen k (Invité)
Anonymous (Invité)
Community Neighbor (Invité)
It's all down in black and white.

Community Neighbor (Invité)
Feidens, and many other old buildings on Broadway are of architectural interest. Shaun Johnson, a local Kingston man, has been photographing those buildings, the interesting things we no longer see or see only as blight.
Personally, I like Feidens, glad it is there: it's good and it is what it is and it works... a good local long time business. I shop, and I get my appliances there.

well, anny, yes! there have been many prostitution stings. but you won't see anymore, though. wanna know why? because stings cost money for overtime. how effective do you think a 'sting' is gonna be when the po-po shows up in uniform in a marked police cruiser? and since hizzoner decided to cut the police budget in 1/2, there is hardly any money for anything. the citizens should be lucky that the phones still work on garraghan drive. the mayor has authorized money be spent on patrols only. any overtime generated by contractual obligations (overtime by minimal staffing and court) is it! no stings! no nothing!!
this is what your elected mayor has 'elected' to do. you just wait til he announces MORE layoffs to the city pd. you think newburgh is bad? don't forget that just this week a 10 year old boy was killed by gunfire! this is exactly what kingston is going to become. why? because the mayor refuses to support the police department. he would much rather cut the police force even more rather than cutting hizzoners precious consultants.
and where are the police going when they drive by? probably to the usual b.s. calls they get on a constant basis because people have to be animals instead of being civil.
kingston IS destined to become another newburgh. you wait and see. and who can we thank? hizzoner!!
and dont think that the pd personnel heads are the only ones on the chopping block. other city workers will be out on development court as well. it is so sad that this mayor is driving this city into the ground and no one is going to do anything about it.

As far as the police and the mayor go ---- the mayor has got to go!!!!!!! And police can pull people over in undercover cars, why cant they pull over and talk to the prostitutes and drugs addicts in undercover cars?!?!?! Doesn't make any sense. Indeed, this use might tend to drive out the less savory visitors... one could hope.

7 months... along time to wait but in the end something was done...
Today the Sunoco was shut down and warrents were served. From the information I got, they are looking at benefit card fraud and illegal check cashing.
As I get more information, I'll post it here and on

A big one in the win column! Let's not forget... this is a really big win!!!
Many many many thanks..
You can bet that there will be more... Not clear yet how many social services checks were going to the "wrong" people. And pity the "right people", who get social services, and get tarred with this brush.

Reportedly some activity has shifted from sunoco to the cedar street deli. Whether this is true or not, is unseen.
So awesome to see this site working!
