I've notified our Northwest Police District officers. When they have had a chance to respond I will post an update.

This intersection was part of a special project run by the Northwest District from July 1 to Dec.31 of 2013. During that time special enforcement was conducted as well as a survey of the intersection. One part of that project was to have DOT check the timing on the lights. After the check, they did increase the time for left turns. As follow up to this complaint we monitored the intersection again and there were no violations observed. Because of the width of the intersection there are often times still vehicles in the intersection turning left when the light turns green for straight traffic. This is not a violation unless they “enter” the intersection after the light turns red. Vehicles going straight are required to see way clear before starting into the intersection, even if their light is green.

Hello. When you sit on Millbrook with Glenwood to your left, multiple cars continue to enter the intersection in front of you to begin turning left AFTER the light has turned green to allow you to go straight. I sit on both sides of this intersection going straight 2 or 4 times each day, and I cannot remember the last time I did not see at least one car run the red from that left turn lane (yes, I'm aware that running a red light means they enter into the intersection after the light turns red). Half the time, I'm watching it from the next lane over and I can see their light. The other half, I'm watching it from next to the McDonalds and I know if my light has been green for 3 seconds, the car across from me who has not hit the line yet should be stopping - but won't. So I wait because I have no desire to have a head on collision.

This is specifically why I requested unmarked police cars. I'm certain police know that when they are in their cruiser, people aren't running red lights. But as for me in my Ford, I see it all day every day. No wonder people hate red light cameras- it's the only way there will be enforcement. And we could use the money. I don't see why there is such reluctance to address this constant issue. It is silly to say there were "no violations".

Does any citizen out there have time and equipment to set up a camera and send in this footage? I literally can't go through this intersection without seeing egregious and blatant red light violations- it is a true danger. Maybe when the footage is posted here, we can stop being told that they must just be running a yellow/ not really in violation.

Agree with both comments. Can we extend the double-yellow ALL THE WAY to the median or put up another "no u turn" at the median heading west on Millbrook approaching the intersection with Glenwood.

Many people, including professional drivers such as UPS delivery, make U-turns at the median when the light is red. This looks wrong and dangerous.

Davis Circle is just a problem. Coming EAST from Duraleigh, if you're in the left straight lane, you can forget about getting past this at 5:00pm. There are always lots of cars turning off Millbrook and the turn lane cannot accommodate them.

Per RPD, we did 6 months on this using multiple approaches to include using a couple covert cars and also having the lights adjusted. This resulted in a significant reduction in accidents. We went out and monitored it again, it is much better than it was. RPD has only a couple of unmarked cars for the entire department to use, none of which we can use to stop cars. So our ability to work it in anything other than blue and whites is very limited. We will continue to work the area when possible.
