Description

Keeping the crosswalks across our city properly painted seems like low-hanging fruit for a well-run municipality For example, at this intersection (Sachem and Whitney), we have the most basic of crosswalk designs - two parallel white line This is very simple to maintain with just a bi-annual repainting Even if the city doesn't want to go to the trouble of re-applying the epoxy-resin based paint, they could EASILY apply a basic white latex lane-marking paint to touch it up between proper maintenance But the city doesn't do that either I guess my question to our city leaders is: IS THIS THE BEST WE CAN DO? In a city drivers speed without consequence, can we please make an investment in our crosswalks to keep pedestrians a little safer? As it is, the city seems to only re-stripe crosswalks after the street has been milled and resurfaced That's just unacceptable It baffles me as to why no one at city hall cares about this stuff
