Yep, a never ending eyesore of illegal activity in Vallejo that our Representatives could care less about

This situation is an invitation to a major vehicular accident happening combined with pedestrians on the side of the highway…you would think this would be a priority. Major safety hazard.

Where are the troublemakers with the stolen vehicles? Why don’t they fly by at 110mph on the shoulder to give them a scare like they normally do in traffic. Or where’s the side shows group? Have them run donuts in front of their stand. They’ve already have an audience there. Or where’s the unsheltered? Have them go beg for food, solicitate, and setup an encampment next to them? Where’s the burglars/robbers that hold people at gunpoint for their money? You know the customers are paying in cash there? It’s a quick smash and grab for them. Let havoc wreak onto their parade. It’s what the legal businesses and civil tax payers are having to deal with in the city of Vallejo. In the end there’s going to be an accident waiting to happen in order for action to take place. On the positive side, it makes the city look better than seeing encampments, beggars, defaced streets of tire markings, and over grown weeds on the street. The city of Vallejo and Caltrans don’t care about the area because there’s not enough affluent people living in the area and this probably discourages new businesses, investors, and old businesses from staying or moving into Vallejo.

This is also happening at night from 7:30 pm to at least 11 pm with two vendors.
I started complaining about this since last November. I contacted all agencies, VPD chief, VPD-traffic, Caltrans, CHP and the traffic engineer since Vallejo Public Works installed the “NO PARKING “ signs. They all said it is not their problem.

It’s sad that there will have to be inevitable fatalities before anything will be done. It’s a matter of time before people will die because of this situation. Totally preventable.

Keep up the posts. Maybe there will be action some day. I too am frustrated by how this makes this neighborhood that I have lived in for over 20 years look. People must drive through here to get to Napa. Why does Vallejo have to be seen as a "ghetto city." I agree with Art that this isn't the single biggest problem, but it is one that can be addressed if our City leadership have the strength to do so. Passing the buck is a perpetual problem among governments and if it is nobody's problem, then it is everybody's problem. Obviously if the first vendor would have gotten a ticket the first time he planted himself there and was followed up with two or three more, the area would not be so out of control. City? Do we have to wait for a tragedy for something to happen here? The City should be working with the State to clean this area up, not let it get more trashed. What would Benicia and American Canyon do if this was happening in their jurisdictions? Vallejo, we can do better!

Craig, you said what would Benicia and American Canyon do? Well, they are Already Doing it, they're sending them to Vallejo, the Do Nothing City. SMH

I agree. Dialogue and finding the right people is what is needed. Not closing the issue and sending us somewhere else is the easy way out. I know the City is way understaffed right now and feel they don't have the time to respond to public comments, but they must remember who they are serving. Yes, they are serving the City Manager, but the City Manager is serving the City Council, the Mayor and the public. Write to your elected officials or call them about these issues. The overburdened city staff will not change without effective change from the top.

The city leaders obviously know this is a huge problem. When people die from an accident or die from e. Coli because of the unmonitored food being sold, those deaths will be on the city leaders. Sad

It is sad, but I have some faith that there are people who will listen to what Vallejoans will want to do with their City. We are the "City of Opportunity" as the signs say, but we are right now a City that lacks purpose. People don't want to work for the City and only want to live in the City because it is the most affordable place in the Bay Area. However, I do know that people like you care about what goes on in Vallejo because people like you are standing up. I believe Vallejo is geographically the best location in the State of California. I don't know how you get more perfect. We should be showing that we are deserving of this location, and we should start with our City leaders.

Yes, I emailed the zoning/planning department as well as our District Council Member Mr. Matulac. Received a promising response from Mr Matulac. Please everyone do the same. These things to take time but eventually we'll see progress. Side note: I've emailed Mr Matulac twice. Both responses were positive. And I was told by Mr Matulac that several people have emailed his office. Keep up the good work folks.

Hello everyone. I did the same and received a postive response from Mr. Matulac as well. There are several improvements needed for the Sonoma Boulevard Corridor in order to make Vallejo a world class city again. Let's keep it up with our elected officials that Vallejo deserves more attention than just having our issues closed off by city staff. I would encourage everybody to at least stay informed with what happens at the city council meetings and if possible to speak up. Change is possible but it is a slow process, especially when there is a city-wide culture of neglect that needs to be overcome. Thank you all!

Mr Matulac is the only resource I haven't tried. The worst he can do is ignore it which would put him in alignment with our pathetic lack of proper reponse. Perhaps a local TV station might be interested?

Mr. Matulac has been very responsive on other issues with me, and I know he is following this particular issue, but I am not sure what his direction will be. He is a new city council person, and I know from talking with him that he is passionate about this city and for our district. I owe him another correspondence, and I'll mention your idea about a local TV station, which isn't a bad idea, but let's see if we can handle this internally before we try that. I was driving by Saturday and Sunday and it is definitely a circus out there. Chicken, puppies, tamales, fruit. It runs the whole gamut. If only we had a place in town where all these people could set up safely and get some local traffic. The clear advantage is the visibility, but that visibility is what is likely to lead to tragedy. Especially late in the day when the traffic thins and people start speeding. I fear tragedy will occur if something is not done.

Hello fellow Vallejoans. I got a positive response from Mr. Matulac, and he has received several complaints about this issue. He suggests that we go to next Tuesday's (7/25) City Council meeting either in person or on Zoom and comment on it during the public forum section. I will be there, and I will mention this issue as I talk a little broader about the three challenges the City of Vallejo has: it's image, communicating effectively, and homelessness. Keep in mind they only allow about six or seven people to comment at the beginning and they prioritize those who show up in the chambers. Then the rest may speak after the meeting, but the last one ran until after midnight. Anyway, keep it up, and remember this isn't the only issue in our neighborhood, but it is a serious one, and one that can be addressed. To Long Time Vallejo Resident, if somehow we can connect offline to exchange notes about all the agencies you have contacted, that would be helpful. Not sure how though.... I'm not going to post my email address. The message should be that because nobody is taking responsibility, this is everybody's and nobody's problems. Citizens should feel comfortable speaking out when they are concerned. Final thought. I deeply feel for the vendors who are just trying to make a living, so we should be respectful of them and see if there are alternatives to this very dangerous location. Thank you all!
