Description
The intersection at Bishop and Orange needs a traffic light before someone gets killed there. I'm a careful driver and I've had close calls with pedestrians and I've seen other automobile drivers have close calls with pedestrians here as well.
People drive up Bishop at excessive rates of speed (which is an issue unto itself) and they expect to zip through the intersection and someone is going to end up being mowed down here. It's just a matter of time.
A traffic light with ped xing would greatly postpone that tragedy.

Aren't there already lights on Orange one block to the north and one block to the south?
Did it ever occur to anyone that adding more lights encourages drivers to try to make it through the next light by driving faster?
Would driving on this street really become better if cars have to stop three times in a row on just these three blocks?

Also, the sidewalks should be "bumped out" when the street is repaved. Currently, the crosswalks are too wide, making it likely that a pedestrian will get hit by cars turning onto Bishop from Orange or vice versa. The current situation also increases the risk of car crashes, as noted above.
Ideally, the crosswalks should be raised as well. This would have a major traffic calming impact on the street as a whole (raising property values), and also make it easier for people to cross Bishop when walking down Orange.

If we want to see property values rise, we need to make this street an attractive place to live, work and walk along with families, not just a great place to speed down and get into crashes with cars crossing at Bishop.

For what it's worth the duplicate issue mentioned in 2013 went through a few rounds of opening and closing before finally being completely closed in 2014.
I'm not aware of any changes to that intersection in the mean time and saw a bicyclist hit by a car at this intersection in 2016.
